Burning Man Case Will Go To Trial in September

Posted: Updated:

Burning Man is a staple of Northern Nevada's summer event schedule, but it could be in danger of major overhauls.

A U.S. District Court Judge has agreed to hear the case involving Burning Man and the county where it's held.

The Reno Gazette-Journal reports the case will go to trial on September 24th in Reno. A lawsuit was filed last fall by Burning Man organizers.

They challenged a Pershing County ordinance that would charge an additional $1.50 per person for law enforcement. They county also tried to regulate how people behave at the counter-culture festival in the Black Rock Desert, north of Reno.

Organizers of Burning Man claim the increased fees would force them to leave Nevada.
