Katherine Dunn Elementary School hosted a special tree planting ceremony on Friday as part of Arbor Day.
Members from the City of Sparks taught kindergartners how to plant a tree and showed them what Arbor Day means. Officials say the tree the kids helped plant will give them pride as they get older. "That's the grade school's, the kindergarten group who gets to take care of it and see and make sure no one harms it and they're a big part of that tree's life," says Jesse Hon.
The first Arbor Day was celebrated more than 140 years ago. The annual day was created to protect tress and woodlands around the nation.
