Suspicious Bag Prompts Investigation in Downtown Reno

A part of downtown Reno was closed off after police found what appeared to be a suspicious duffel bag Thursday afternoon.

Police say officers drove by the Cal-Neva when they noticed the bag on a bicycle that was parked outside the casino.

They closed down the area between Virginia and 2nd Streets while crews from the bomb squad investigated.

The owner of the bike then came out of the Cal-Neva and explained what was in the bag.

After police confirmed what was inside, they determined the bag was not a threat.

Police say despite the recent bombings in Boston, this response is standard procedure.

"There's always a heightened alert. What we do is always with that fact, and what's occurred recently. We're going to take everything seriously until we determine otherwise," says Sgt. Jim Becker.

The area was opened back up to traffic about a half an hour later.
