Motorcyclist, Wild Horse Dies in Accident Near Pyramid Lake

Posted: Updated:

The Washoe County Sheriff's Office is investigating a fatal motorcycle accident that also killed a wild horse on Thursday night.

Deputies tell Channel 2 News that it happened around 9:00 p.m. near Whiskey Springs Road about 10 miles southwest of Pyramid Lake in the Palomino Valley area.

Investigators believe 60-year-old Adrian Beard of Sparks was riding within the posted speed limit when a wild horse ran out in front, not giving him sufficient time to stop.

Beard died about 30 minutes later.

A few yards away from the crash scene, deputies say they found the dead wild horse which was later determined to have been involved in the collision.

It says the Bureau of Land Management has been notified of the incident.

Deputies say speeding and driver impairment do not appear to have contributed to this fatal accident.

The Sheriff's Office urges all motorists to be aware that there are wild animals that travel near our roadways. These animals' movements are unpredictable and they will most commonly jump out in front of traffic.
