McCune Murder Suspects Appear in Carson City Courtroom

Posted: Updated:

The four suspects accused of murdering state employee William McCune appeared in a Carson City courtroom on Thursday.

23-year-old Michael Evans, 20-year-old Makyla Blackmore, 22-year-old Raul Garcia and 20-year-old Anthony Elliott appeared in court for a status hearing.

Prosecutors say the four beat McCune to death, robbed his apartment and disposed of his duct-taped body in the Carson River. He was positively identified by the Washoe County Medical Examiner's Office through dental and medical x-rays.

McCune was reported missing after he did not show up for work and missed a work-related flight. Deputies responded to an apartment in the 700 block of Silver Oak Drive just after 8:30 a.m., and discovered signs of an obvious struggle.

Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong says at least one of the suspects has had direct contact with McCune in the past. Detectives believe illegal drugs could be involved, and a possible motive behind the incident.

Evans is charged with murder, murder of an older person, battery with a deadly weapon causing substantial bodily harm and burglary. Blackmore is charged with murder and burglary, Garcia is also charged with murder and burglary, and Elliott is charged with murder.

The district attorney's office has said it may seek the death penalty in this case.
