State Assembly Passes Sex-Ed Reform Bill

Posted: Updated:

Lawmakers at the state assembly feel it is time Nevada updates the sex education curriculum in schools. The democratic majority passed AB-230 Tuesday, in a 26-15 vote along party lines.

The bill, that now goes to the state senate for approval, would require the state to update the criteria for sex education in the Silver State. The school districts would then be required to change courses to meet the new criteria.

The new curriculum would include topics such as contraception methods, domestic violence and sexual abuse, communicable diseases and the effects of drugs and alcohol on decision-making.

It would also automatically enroll students into the program, and parents would have to opt-out for their children. Currently, parents mush opt-in for their child to be in the course.
