'Made in Reno' Band Competition to Feature Serious Talent

Posted: Updated:

Several local bands are preparing for a big contest, and from the sound of things, last year's winner will be up against some tough competition.

'Knowledge Lives Forever' has a sound as powerful as their message. This band headlines for big names that come through Reno like DJ Quick, KC and JoJo and Nappy Roots.

They are just a couple of days away from competing against local performers who say Reno gives them a chance to grow. "Reno's got a really hometown supportive vibe and it's really cool for growing musicians to live here," says singer and songwriter Chari 'Knowledge' Smith.

Guitarist Spencer Kilpatrick, who joined the band a few months ago, adds, "aw, the scene is stupid! There's just too many good acts!"

In this case, stupid being a good thing.

'Knowledge Lives Forever' wil be among 20 artists performing this Thursday night at the Pioneer Underground for a 'Made in Reno' band competition.

'Knowledge Lives Forever' won last year so they're the ones to beat this time around.

They'll release their third album next week.
