A 19-year-old Elko man who shot another man during an attempted robbery last summer has been sentenced to up to 16 years in prison.

The Elko Daily Free Press reports (http://tinyurl.com/bvw6tw2) District Judge Nancy Porter agreed to make Leslie Oppenhein eligible for parole after serving more than five years.

Oppenhein pleaded no contest to use of a deadly weapon, attempted robbery and possession of stolen goods after police say he tried to rob two men at gunpoint in August. The victims sped away but Oppenhein fired a gun, striking one in the shoulder.

Police captured him the next morning at his Elko home where they found more than $10,000 worth of stolen property, including guns, prescription pills, electronics and motorcycles. Before the plea deal he was charged with attempted murder.
