Same Sex Marriage Resolution Clears State Senate

Posted: Updated:

The State Senate took a step towards legalizing gay marriage in the Silver State.

Monday, in a 12-9 vote, the Senate Joint Resolution 13 was approved. SJR 13 would repeal the definition of marriage in the state's constitution to recognize all marriages in Nevada, regardless of gender.

Since the resolution would change Nevada's constitution, it must survive a vote from the assembly during this session. Then, it must be passed again in 2015 before appearing on the 2016 ballot for voter approval.
