Weekend Shooting Sends Two People to Hospital

Posted: Updated:

The Douglas County Sheriff's Office is investigating a weekend shooting that sent two people to the hospital.

The shooting happened Saturday just after 11:15pm at a home in the 1300 block of Waterloo Lane in Gardnerville.

Deputies say when they arrived, they found 38-year-old Rianilee Belles with a bullet wound to her abdomen, and her brother, 35-year-old Benjamin Dupreez with several bruises to his head.

They say an initial investigation revealed that Belles' husband, 38-year-old Travis Belles, and her brother were arguing when Dupreez used a handgun to protect himself and his sister from her husband. Deputies say Benjamin and Travis then struggled over the gun, during which time the handgun discharged, with a round hitting Rianilee in the abdomen.

Belles and Dupreez were taken to the hospital for treatment.

The investigation remains ongoing - and no charges have been filed yet.
