Thousands Celebrate Earth Day in Reno

Posted: Updated:

Earth Day is about more than just recycling.

The goal is to educate more people about the importance of energy conservation and healthy eating. That's something Susan Krick wants to teach her 3-year-old son now.

"It's very important for us to show him that the earth is important, that we need to take care of the earth, that we can't neglect her," she says.

Thousands of others joined Krick and her son Sunday at Idlewild Park to get the message out there that we need to protect our planet.

"I think people, some people, don't want to take the first step," says Luciecia Velancio. "They think that one person doesn't make a difference, and it does."

Along with some delicious looking food and live music, were more than 160 vendors. Each one focusing on healthy lifestyles and conservation.

"Seen a lot about natural energy resources," says Crystle Bills. "Solar energy, stuff like that. It's really interesting to me to see what we could do."

Some of the Earth Day participants talked to us about how vital it is to get that information out there for more people to see.

"We don't want to shove it down anyone's throat," says Bob Clarkson. "It's all about just having it out there for everything, that's the thing,"

Mother Nature cooperated and gave us some beautiful weather, and Earth Day participants hope more people will start returning the favor.

"We have a duty living here, especially with the time we're entering, to protect her," says Krick.
