Places 2 Check Out: Wild Garlic Pizza and Pub

Posted: Updated:

Coffee and pizza don't necessarily go together, but they certainly do in this location on Mt. Rose Street. Next to Bibo's Coffee is a new pizza place. Wild Garlic Pizza and Pub is a new concept for an already popular pizza. The owner of Blind Onion branched out in a garlicky way. "That creative control. We can really be creative and funky and the owner can really express himself with all these creations and have a lot of fun with it," says general manager, Andrea Wexelblatt.

The fun starts with the location. It's got a hip, neighborhood feel with the beautiful original brick now playing host to the bar side of the restaurant. "We have wine on draught. So we don't have bottled wine. People can come in and get carafes, sangria. We have a full bar and then a great beer selection."

The selection is also pretty great for pizza pie toppings. "We roast garlic every single day. We have broccoli and anchovies and oysters and all sorts of cool toppings so people really create their own and love all the pizzas."

But before you decide which pie to go with, you might want to warm up with their knots. These are literally knots of pizza dough wrapped around yumming fillings like pesto and parmesan. But don't fill up on these. You should leave room for their special crust. The thick ring of crust around the dough is meant to be dipped in honey.

It's safe to say the Wild Garlic is fitting in perfectly in the old southwest Reno neighborhood. "We say 11 to 11 but we hang out until two in the morning with the neighborhood so always an opening at 11."
