From Catholic Charities of Northern Nevada:
Catholic Charities of Northern Nevada is asking the community for non-perishable food donations to give away at our upcoming "Thanksgiving in May" event happening Wednesday, May 22nd at 9:00 a.m. at the St. Vincent's Food Pantry. We have 1,600 frozen turkeys to give out to our food pantry clients, but we need all the traditional fixings to go with them.
We're looking for the following donations:
-Boxed stuffing mix
-Instant mashed potatoes
-Canned cranberry sauce
-Bread and rolls
-Canned vegetables and fruit
-Custard, pudding and desserts
-Cash donations are also accepted
Our goal is to give 1,600 hungry local households a turkey and a box of food so they can go home and prepare a special "holiday" meal. "We think this event really highlights the fact that hunger occurs in our community year round, and not just during the holidays," said St. Vincent's Food Pantry Manager Scott Cooksley.
Donations can be dropped off at St. Vincent's Food Pantry at 500 E. Fourth Street in Reno, Mondays through Fridays from 9 – 5 and Saturdays from 9 – 3. If your business or organization would like to hold a food drive for "Thanksgiving in May," call Development Director Auburn Harrison at 322-7073 x 235 to schedule a barrel delivery.
