Stead Airport Holds New Terminal Ground Breaking

Posted: Updated:

A groundbreaking was held Tuesday for a new terminal that will be build at the Reno-Stead Airport.

Airport officials, along with representatives from Q&D Construction, lined up and put their shovels to work, symbolizing the future of the new terminal building.

The existing facility was also demolished to make way for the new building. The state-of-the-art facility will include the terminal and emergency operations center for 200 aircraft and tenants at the Reno-Stead Airport.

Officials say $48-million has been put into the Reno-Stead airfield in the last ten years. "It operates in the black most years, some years in red, currently a little bit in the red, and it's been supported by Reno-Tahoe but not by tax dollars, very important, no tax dollars in either one of the airports," says Krys Bart.

The new center will also provide an administrative office, community conference room and pilot's lounge.

Airport officials say the Reno-Stead Airport holds the keys to job creation and economic development.
