Someone 2 Know: Wheelbarrow Walker Adoption Update

Posted: Updated:

We are pleased to share a story of hope with you; a success story about a Sparks couple's journey to grow their family.

When we introduced you to the Harvey family last year, they were trying to raise money for an overseas adoption. Although Tejay and Ashleigh already brought a biological daughter into this world, they desired to grown their family even more and realized the great need for adoption. There was one problem, however: the cost! So, they got creative trying to raise $25,000. You might remember one of their fundraisers last June. Tejay walked the entire McCarran loop while pushing a wheelbarrow. We are happy to report, their unique fundraising efforts paid off.

"We've been home for almost three weeks now with our daughter, Esther, from Uganda," Ashleigh said as she proudly introduced the smiling six years old. Just looking at the bright, charismatic little girl, you would not know she spent two years in an east African orphanage. It took some time to find a family, as most overlooked adopting her because she was not a baby. "It was hard because she had to overcome a lot of things, but she is a strong little girl."

Now Esther is part of an equally strong family; one that relied on their faith to get through the adoption process, which they admit was difficult at times. As Tejay explained, "It's been a really hard road, but we've been able to involve the community and our friends and our family. We had tons of support and prayers behind us." They stayed positive by also keeping contact with Esther; they sent letters and pictures of her new room. When they finally brought her home, Esther told us, "I was really happy." Her new, younger sister was ecstatic, too. When her Daddy asked, "Do you love your sister?" She belted out, "I doooooo!"

The girls became best of friends right away. They laugh, play and even dress alike. Esther understands that they were born into this family in different ways, "Eva in mommy's belly and I'm in mommy's heart." However, they are together now and the girls' parents say it was worth the wait. "Really, we're the lucky ones to find such a sweet girl and such a blessing to our family."
