Powerball Tickets Now on Sale in California

Posted: Updated:

Monday, tickets for the Powerball lottery went on sale in California.

As we've seen with Mega Millions, our proximity to the Golden State can lure Nevadans who have hopes of winning big. The Powerball is a big pot, starting at $40 million and it only goes up from there.

"The amount of jackpots that goes on with this is huge and they're among the nation's largest jackpot," said the CEO of Gold Ranch Fern Szony. "So, if you are looking for the big win, this is how you are going to get it."

If you aren't familiar with Powerball, here's how it works. The $2 Powerball game is similar to Mega Millions. Players choose five numbers from one to 59 and one Powerball number from one to 35.

Here's the big difference between California's draw games and Powerball, though.
The Powerball jackpot increases by $10 million with every roll. Drawings will be held every Wednesday and Saturday at 7:59 PM. You only have to drive a few miles outside of Reno to play.

Powerball is offered at the Gold Ranch Casino and RV Resort in Verdi.

Szony said the majority of people coming in and buying tickets are from the greater Reno area.
We asked Anne Pahelan, who was visiting from Las Vegas and playing Powerball, what makes the game so intriguing?

"I just think it's because people win, it's fun, it's taking a chance and get a quick pick."

Even if you don't win the jackpot, don't worry, there are eight other ways to win prizes.
