Residential Dump Days a Big Success

Posted: Updated:

It was certainly a nice weekend outdoors to do some Spring cleaning.

Waste Management's Residential Dump Days gives folks a chance to get rid of old stuff they don't want anymore. This weekend's event brought in people from all over northern Nevada.

Truck load after truck load kept workers busy all Sunday afternoon. Folks could dump anything from tree branches to old household appliances.

People clearly wanted to take full advantage because the lines seemed to just keep growing the whole afternoon.

"I was not expecting the line," says Glen Wolfe, who was waiting in line when we talked to him. "I pulled in and there was a double line, and I always know a double line is about 60 minutes."

A long wait to drop off some trash, but most drivers told us it was worth it. The hope is these events keep folks from dumping in the hills.

It was a successful weekend because a whole lot of trash was dumped that would otherwise still be laying in houses or yards in our community.

"We got mattresses, got bunch of wood back there," says Brian Burch, who dumped a truck load full of trash. "Old frames, trash bags."

Residential Dump Days are held every three months. Waste Management is also offering free dump weekends at the Lockwood Landfill in Sparks throughout April and May.
