Washoe County Seeks Input on General Fund Budget

Washoe County is asking residents for feedback about balancing available revenue with the needs of various local government services by providing comments online at Open Washoe.

The County's General Fund receives 78 percent of its revenues from property, sales and other taxes. The online survey asks residents to allocate an imaginary $500 to general fund services. The $500 limit represents Washoe County's available funds for the purpose of the survey so citizens have an opportunity to provide direction on the 2013-14 budget.

Other programs and services of Washoe County that are separately funded and are not the subject of this survey include Regional Animal Services, the County's golf courses, County water and sewer services, Child Protection and others. The services identified on the survey are those that are funded by the General Fund and are the services for which prioritization is especially critical.

The survey question is: How would you allocate funds among services for Washoe County's 2013-14 budget?

The Washoe County Budget will be heard by the Board of Commissioners on the April 23, 2013 Commission meeting. For additional information, schedules and presentations visit the 2013-2014 budget website.
