A student from Carson High School is holding an event this weekend to raise awareness about breast cancer.
As part of her senior project, Abby Lafoon is hanging shoes on a fence outside her school she says they symbolize walking in someone else's footsteps.
Five years ago her mother was diagnosed with stage four breast cancer so Abby wanted to do something to help victims.
"I think that everybody should know about cancer, should know about the struggles that not only the cancer survivor has but also the families."
Once finished with her project, she'll donate it to the cancer center.
She'll collecting more shoes at a fundraiser Saturday from 1 to 5 pm in the north parking lot of Carson High School located at 1140 West King Street.
She'll also collect money for Moms on the Run - a group that helps local women battle cancer.
