From the Reno-Sparks Convention and Visitors Authority

The Reno-Sparks Convention and Visitors Authority was informed today the 2015 Safari Club International Annual Hunters' Convention will not be held at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center, as originally planned.

The Safari Club International Annual Hunters' Convention would have made its 16th visit to Reno Tahoe in 2015, since first bringing the convention to the region in 1989. The Annual Hunters' Convention from 2009-2011, and in 2013, contributed an average of roughly 20,000 room nights per year, representing an estimated economic impact of about $20 million each year.

"Safari Club International has been a valued partner of the Reno/Sparks community since 1989, and we appreciate all of the great shows that we have been allowed to host over the years. SCI's growing demand for international air service has made it ever more difficult for the Reno area to meet the organization's evolving requirements," said Christopher Baum, President and CEO of the RSCVA. "We will continue to explore options with the SCI executive team going forward, in the hope that a mutually beneficial solution can be found that will allow this wonderful convention to return home to Reno in the future."

The Safari Club International Annual Hunters' Convention is scheduled to be held in Las Vegas in 2016 and 2017. The RSCVA has been informed that the convention will now be held there in 2015 as well.
