A preliminary hearing is set for April 9th for former Nevada Assemblyman Steven Brooks.

The 41-year-old faces several counts including resisting a peace officer with force, felony evading and assault on a police animal. On Tuesday afternoon, he pleaded not guilty to all counts.

Police say Brooks was arrested last Thursday after he attacked a police dog with a wrench and had a struggle with officers.

It was the third time he's been arrested since January.

Brooks faces 5 years and 4 months in California state prison if he's convicted in connection with last week's incident. He remains in San Bernardino County Jail in Rancho Cucamonga on $100,000 bail. A motion to reduce that bail was also denied during Tueday's video arraignment.

Last week, he became the first person in Nevada history to be voted out of office by his colleagues in the Legislature after they cited concerns for their safety and a bizarre series of public incidents.

He's accused of making threats toward his colleagues, including Assembly Speaker Marilyn Kirkpatrick. Brooks also was denied the purchase of a gun in Sparks last month after he was banished from the chambers.

Brooks' attorney Mitchell Posin has said there's been a misunderstanding and Brooks doesn't pose any real threat to anyone.
