Authorities are investigating a fatal accident that happened in Downtown Reno Sunday night.

According to the Reno Police Department, the driver of an SUV headed east on Maple Street ran a red light at Sierra Street. The SUV slammed into a car, and the SUV tipped onto its driver's side and slid several yards, down a hill toward the eastbound lanes of Interstate 80.

Crews were able to keep the SUV from reaching I-80. But the driver of the SUV died at the scene. Police say his two small children -- ages 4 and 6 -- were wearing their seat belts, and they were not hurt.

The people in the car were uninjured as well.

Police say the man who lost his life was from the Bay Area.

Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash.
