Area Families Celebrate Easter Sunday

Posted: Updated:

Whether it's sitting down for a large meal or going on an egg hunt, Easter is a time for people to be with loved ones.

Everyone has their own holiday traditions. For most families, that involves a large feast. Sunday morning, they were busy buying those last-minute items.

"Easter baskets, stuffed animals," says Roman McCarthy-Scott, visiting from Sacramento. "Usually, in the last day or the day after, prices go down a little, reduced prices, better discounts."

Folks were quickly in and out of the Save Mart on Plumb Lane in Reno all morning long. The store manager told us this last-minute rush is pretty typical.

"You have a lot of people coming in and getting last-minute candy or baskets for children," says Andrea Ochsenchlagar.

It's not quite as busy as Christmas or Thanksgiving, but people always seem to forget something.

While many families prepared for an Easter feast, thousands made their way to church. It was a packed house at Our Lady of the Snows for morning mass.

"We're practicing Catholics, we have been for years," says Lisa Farrow. "This is a big celebration for us, and 40 days of Lent, and here we are on Easter Sunday."

Those who didn't make their own feast headed to local buffets and breakfast joints with family and friends.
