The Douglas County Sheriff's Office has a man behind bars for making a bomb threat late Saturday night.

Deputies say the incident began around 11 p.m. at U.S. 50 and Kahle Drive in the Stateline area. A deputy conducted a traffic stop on a black Dodge SRT8 driven by 29-year old Adam Smith from Minden. He was soon arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.

Then, the deputy noticed a wire from the front seat to the trunk. When asked about what it was, Smith said, "it's a bomb."

As a precaution, Nevada Highway Patrol, the Tahoe Douglas Fire Department, the bomb squad, FBI and the Nevada Department of Transportation were all called to the scene. Deputies say U.S. 50 was closed and traffic was diverted around the area while the bomb squad investigated the vehicle.

Then, around 4 a.m., it was determined that Smith's threat was a hoax after no explosives were found inside the vehicle.

Smith was booked into the Douglas County Jail on charges of DUI and making a bomb threat. His bail was set for $26,500.
