High-Speed Chase Ends in Fallon, Driver and Passenger Arrested

Posted: Updated:

The Nevada Highway Patrol says a man led law enforcement on a high-speed chase Saturday evening. Troopers say the driver traveled 52 miles in 32 minutes.

This all started just before 7 p.m. Saturday. Troopers say the driver of a red Ford Mustang passed another car on Highway 95 about 18 miles north of Hawthorne, where the road is marked with a double yellow line. When troopers tried to stop the driver, the Mustang sped up.

Walker River Tribal Police tried to stop the Mustang with a spike strip, which did not work.

The Mustang continued toward Fallon, where deputies with the Churchill County Sheriff's Office and Fallon Police also used spike strips -- which were successful.

The driver lost control and the Mustang stopped near Colorado Lane. Troopers say the driver and his passenger got out and ran.

Authorities did stop and arrest the passenger, a 30-year-old woman from San Diego. The Nevada Highway Patrol confirms with Channel 2 News that troopers and Churchill County deputies later found and arrested the driver, a 24-year-old man, also out of San Diego. Troopers have not released their names to us. The details of the arrests are also not being released at this time.

The Mustang was not reported stolen. Troopers are not yet sure if alcohol or drugs are factors in this high-speed chase. The investigation is ongoing.
