Volunteers Needed for eWaste Event Next Month

Posted: Updated:

RENO, NV (March 25, 2013) – Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful is looking for energetic, heavy-lifting volunteers to help with an Electronic Waste Collection and Recycling (eWaste) event on April 20. Two shifts are available – 8 a.m.-noon and 11 a.m.-3 p.m. – and volunteers must be able to lift 20 lbs. or more repeatedly during their four-hour shift. Volunteers can sign up at ktmb.org or call (775) 851-5185.

"To keep volunteers' strength up this year, we're really excited to have Whole Foods helping us," said Christi Cakiroglu, Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful (KTMB) executive director. "And with the help of YP, we're able to again provide the manpower for this great event New2U Computers puts on with Sims Recycling Solutions."

In addition to great food, and a fun time helping friends and neighbors, volunteers will be able to drop off their own electronic waste, including two TVs, free of charge. The general public will be charged $10 in advance per two TVs (vouchers are available at New2U Computers or Whole Foods) or $20 cash at the door.

The general public will be able to drop off their electronic waste at 310 E Plumb Lane (the old Parklane Mall site) from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. on April 20. Computer and components, electronics, appliances (except refrigerators with Freon), video game systems, scrap metal and car parts will be accepted free of charge. For more information about what can be dropped off, contact New2U Computers: 329.1126.

New2U Computers is a program of Disability Resources, and presents this eWaste event in partnership with Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful, YP, and Sims Recycling Solutions. Many other organizations and businesses help make this event possible, including the City of Reno, Nevada Works, Digiprint, Smile, Reno Forklift, Merlone Geier Partners, Dough Boys and Sierra Restroom Solutions.
