Blue Tie Ball: Mobile Bidding

Posted: Updated:

There is a new way to support University of Nevada student athletes. The Fourth Annual Blue Tie Ball is happening at the Peppermill Resort Spa Casino this Saturday, March 30th. While the event is not new, the way you can bid on silent auction items is. You can now view and bid on silent auction items using your smart phone!

All you have to do is log onto: http://www.nevadawolfpack.com/boosters/blue-tie-ball.html and click on "Mobile Bidding" on the main page. After you register your phone, you will receive a text message confirming your participating. You can then also opt to be notified when you have been outbid on an auction item. Famous Dave's and Janiga MD's are sponsors of the mobile bidding.

This is a first for the University of Nevada, which raised $100,000 at the Blue Tie Ball event last year. Director of Special Events for Nevada Athletics, Heather Dixon says, "I think it's a new trend in fundraising and we're really excited about it. You do not need to be at the event to win or to bid."

Some of the items on which you can bid include: tattoos by Colin Kaepernick's local tattoo artist, "Dinner under the Lights" with the new football coaching staff, having Wolfie come to a special event you are hosting, an autographed Kap helmet and drawing, even the chance to be a Nevada cheerleader for a day.

All the money raised will go towards scholarships for student athletes like Nevada Quarterback, Cody Fajardo. "That's the reason I came here, because I had a full-ride scholarship and anyway you can get you education and play some football at a Division One school - that's the greatest."

Fajardo starts practice for the upcoming football season this week. He will have to squeeze in some dance practice as well. While the Blue Tie Ball fundraising event was designed to allow students to better interact with Boosters and other supporters, the highlight of the night is when athletes break out into a choreographed dance for the crowd.

Kristen Remington will be emceeing the Blue Tie Ball this Saturday, March 30th at the Peppermill. Tickets are going fast.
