ACLU Weighs In On Nevada Medical Marijuana Law

Posted: Updated:

CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) -- Democratic state Sen. Tick Segerblom says if Arizona can implement a medical marijuana law, so can Nevada.

Segerblom is among a handful of legislators who visited a medical marijuana dispensary in Phoenix on Friday. He's sponsoring a bill that would authorize and regulate nonprofit medical marijuana dispensaries to serve about 3,600 Nevadans with medical marijuana cards.

Nevada voters approved medical marijuana in 2000. But under existing law, patients essentially have to grow their own because there is no legal way to acquire it.

Segerblom told the Las Vegas Sun no taxpayer money went toward Friday's trip.

It came the same say the American Civil Liberties Union of Nevada filed documents in the Nevada Supreme Court calling the state's medical pot law unconstitutional because it doesn't allow patients with prescriptions for medical marijuana to legally obtain it.
