An annual fundraiser that benefits the Food Bank of Northern Nevada will open to the public later this week.
Nine teams of volunteers began building sculptures for "Canstruction" at Meadowood Mall Wednesday.
"It's a great event that not only raises food for the hungry in our area but it also lets teams work with architects and they learn about teamwork, about building these structures, all at the same time they're giving back to the community," says Jocelyn Lantrip.
More than a dozens companies, including Channel 2 help to sponsor the event.
The sculptures will be judged Thursday night. Then Friday through Sunday the public can come vote on which design should receive "People's Choice" at $1 per vote.
All the money and canned food goes directly to the Food Bank.
