Outdoorsmen Prepare for Spring

Posted: Updated:

As we inch closer to Spring, plenty of people are gearing up for outdoor activities.

Sunday was a perfect opportunity at Cabela's Spring Great Outdoors Days.

"I live for Spring," says Manuel Leslie, a Reno resident. "Everything greens up, the fish start biting. It's just a fantastic time here."

This weekend's event featured seminars on everything from fly-fishing to hand-loading ammunition.

"Hunting enthusiast, a shooting enthusiast, and I've always been interested in hand-loading," says Alan Kujala.

These guys are clearly excited for Spring, and they're not alone. Hundreds passed through Cabela's this weekend.

"Spring, it really picks up again," says Jamie Klund with Cabela's. "With Spring hunting, of course, fishing season, people are starting to think about that, and the families doing camping."

And, what's not to be excited about? This area presents endless opportunities to get outdoors and enjoy all kinds of activities.

David Cousineau is from Oregon, and a vendor at the event. He loves coming to Reno,he says, because of all diehard outdoorsmen in our area.

"At my booth the last couple days, everyone that has come has been totally committed to hunting, or totally committed to camping," he says.

A Washoe County park ranger participated in the event as well.

"It's a very busy time for us," says Marie Fong. "Not only are we cleaning up the Winter, but we're getting ready for the Spring. We have a lot of things coming up this Spring."

She told us a lot of work is done to prepare for so many people to arrive when the temperatures warm up.

That is just around the corner. The first day of Spring is on Wednesday.
