Fatal Rollover Accident in Dayton Area

Posted: Updated:

The Lyon County Sheriff's Office is investigating a fatal rollover accident in the Dayton area late Friday night.

Deputies say it happened around 11:15 p.m. on Fort Churchill Road, which is about five miles east of Dayton.

When deputies arrived on scene, they found an older model Jeep Wrangler that had rolled while traveling on the dirt road. Deputies learned the Jeep was occupied by six people.

Deputies say when the vehicle rolled over, the driver, identified as 21-year old Dayton resident, George Lawrence Ambrose, was partially ejected from the vehicle and died on scene. Two of the passengers were taken to Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno by Careflight helicopters. The remaining three passengers were treated for their injuries at the scene.

Deputies say none of the occupants appeared to be wearing seat belts and alcohol does appear to be a factor in the accident.

Deputies say the investigation is ongoing and they are asking anyone with information to call the Lyon County Sheriff's Office Dayton substation at (775) 246-6200 or the Lyon County Dispatch Center at (775) 577-5023.
