Sparks Police Conducted Traffic Enforcement Operation Friday

Posted: Updated:

Sparks Police conducted a traffic enforcement operation Friday in an ongoing effort to reduce traffic accidents.

Police say from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, they issued 52 citations overall for traffic and pedestrian violations and made one arrest for drug possession.

21 of those citations were issued for drivers who did not stop on red lights. Several citations were also issued to pedestrians who did not use nearby crosswalks and decided to cross the street illegally.

Police say officers will be conducting similar traffic enforcement operations in the coming weeks.

Sparks Police would like to remind drivers to pay attention when approaching an intersection, reduce their speed. Police say when a light turns yellow, it's meant for drivers to slow down and prepare to stop, not to accelerate to try to beat the light turning red.
