RENO, Nev. – An explosive offensive performance from the University of Nevada softball team, including three home runs and five extra-base hits, led the Wolf Pack to a 10-0, run-rule victory over UTSA on Friday.
Two homers and five RBI from Ashley Butera paced the Nevada offense to a win in its home opener, as the Pack improved to 14-12 and UTSA fell to 14-10. The Roadrunners lost 5-4 to Northern Colorado earlier in the day.
Butera now has five home runs on the season to tie Megan Fincher for the team lead. Erin Jones also went deep and now has three home runs and 23 RBI. She was 3-for-3 and raised her season average to .417.
Karlyn Jones won her fifth consecutive start and improved to 9-4. She gave up only three hits in a game that took 1:04 minutes and saw Nevada score five earned runs off of two UTSA pitchers.
Butera's fourth home run of the season made the score 3-0 Nevada in the first and the Pack never looked back, scoring twice in the third and five times in the fourth. The only inning Nevada did not score was the second.
Nevada will return to the field with a game against Northern Colorado at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. Immediately after, Nevada will play UTSA again.
