The Search for Work Continues for Thousands of Nevadans

Posted: Updated:

While the unemployment rate has finally dropped here in Nevada, there are still more than 136,000 people looking for work. And some of them took part in a job fair at Harrah's Reno today.

"I'm here to apply for any job they'll give me," said Josh Hudson who's been looking for work for months.

"I think in the past month I've put in 20-30 applications for jobs everywhere."

"I've been looking for work for a year and when you don't have much experience it's tough. Really tough, "said Joseph Vilardi.

At Harrah's they were hiring for about three dozen jobs in everything from laundry to cocktails, dealers to housekeeping. And they had between 300 and 350 people in line when they opened the doors yesterday morning.

"I live in Fallon," said Drew Haughton, "and if it's not a full-time job it's tough to drive this far. Plus, I need Sundays off because I'm an assistant pastor. That does make it harder. But I'm retired Navy and can do a lot of things. So I'm applying."

"The economy is getting better, said Candice Stevens with Harrah's. "The 150,000 bowlers expected here between now and July are helping fill up the gaming and the hotel so we are adding people on."

And everyone hopes that continues.
