St. Patrick's Day Brings Local Events, Area Road Closures

Posted: Updated:

"There are numerous events happening all around Reno this weekend to celebrate St. Patrick's Day," advises City of Reno Special Events Coordinator Alexis Hill. "We want everyone to enjoy themselves while being safe."

One of the many St. Patrick's Day events occurring this year is the Leprechaun Chase. The City of Reno is a proud sponsor of this new event that consists of a 5K run/walk on Sunday through the streets in Midtown and the Wells Avenue District.

The road closures for the Leprechaun Chase will occur on Sunday, March 17 from approximately 6:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The closures will include: Center Street between Holcomb Avenue and Stewart Street; Holcomb Avenue between Liberty Street and Pueblo Street; Stewart Street between Center Street and Wells Avenue; and Wells Avenue southbound between Stewart Street and Pueblo Street. Suggested alternative routes include using Sinclair and Wheeler Avenue. Please note there will be volunteers and Reno Police Officers working the course to allow residential traffic to cross when safe.

An additional road closure for St Patrick's Day festivities will be Vesta Street between Wells Avenue and Holcomb Avenue. This closure will occur between 9:00 am on March 17 until 12:00 a.m. on March 18.  (City of Reno)

The Silver Legacy will host a Leprechaun Crawl starting at 7:30pm Saturday night. A portion of the proceeds will benefit Future Kind, a non-profit dedicated to improving infrastructure and education and closing the global opportunity gap and building communities.

And on Sunday, Virginia City will host a St. Patrick's Day parade on C Street at noon.
