Washoe County sheriff's deputies say they have identified a person of interest in the shooting death of a man whose body was found in the backyard of his home in Spanish Springs.

Deputies identified the victim on Thursday as the owner of the home, 47-year-old Ryan Petty. The person of interest is his roommate, 48-year-old Billey Stanberry. He's currently being held in the Douglas County jail on an unrelated charge.

Washoe County deputies interviewed him at the jail in Gardnerville on Wednesday but have not charged him in the fatal shooting.

Douglas County detectives found a van that belonged to the victim abandoned at a Smith's grocery store on U.S. Highway 395 in Gardnerville on Tuesday. They say, the Dodge Caravan is related to the homicide and was sealed and transported to the Washoe County Sheriff's Office for processing.

Deputies believe the van was abandoned at the Smith's Monday between 7am-11am, however, it could have been missing from the scene since Sunday, March 10th. They say the person who abandoned the van may have left the parking lot on a gas powered scooter.
