AP: Vets Advocate: Brooks Requested Body Armor

Posted: Updated:

A veteran's affairs advocate says he gave a ballistic vest but declined to give infrared night vision goggles that were requested by a Nevada state lawmaker who has been arrested twice since January.

Internet talk show host Steve Sanson said Thursday that Assemblyman Steven Brooks didn't tell him what he wanted to do with the vest.

The North Vegas Democrat was involuntarily hospitalized in January for a psychiatric evaluation.

He was arrested in January and February, and faces charges of resisting an officer and misdemeanor assault on an officer, battery-domestic violence and obstruction.

Brooks is banned from the Legislature building and is on leave from his elected position. Two legislators have obtained restraining orders against him.

Brooks is asking the state Supreme Court to void the order placing him on leave.
