Reno City Council Votes to Terminate Kiosk Contract
The Reno City Council approved sending a 120-day Notice of Termination to Curb System to correct the deficiencies in the downtown parking system.
With the Notice and per the original agreement, Curb System has 120 calendar days from receipt of the Notice to cure and modify the issues with the parking system. After the expiration of 120-days, a report will be presented to Council for determination of whether deficiencies have been corrected.
Some highlights of the outlined issues in the Notice to Termination:
1. The City is demanding payment of the shortfall of $613,882.
2. To provide a Performance Bond to guarantee the faithful performance of the work, for warranty performance of the system, for removal of the system and restoration of City property.
The previous parking meters that were located in downtown Reno were near the end of their useful life so replacement was necessary. In October 2010, the Reno City Council awarded the bid to Curb System, a local company. Since that time, the City of Reno continued to work with Curb System to perform testing to ensure the new parking system was operating correctly. In November 2012, the Reno City Council directed staff to send a new Notice to Correct and to continue informal negotiations with Curb Systems, making today a reaffirmation of that direction. Last year the city insisted improvements be made and in September, the company said the problems had been fixed.
