There's new information regarding the recent death of a bear cub in the Incline Village area.

The Nevada Department of Wildlife has been criticized for accusations that officials euthanized a bear cub over the weekend. But NDOW says, that's not the case.

Channel 2 viewer Phil Thompson sent us this photo of a bear cub along Mount Rose Highway last Friday.

Chris Healy of NDOW tells us officials did capture a 22-pound bear cub near Incline on Saturday, and they tranquilized the cub.

Healy does not know if the cub in this picture is the same one they captured, but he says the department can only assume so, given its small size.

Healy says the cub that was tranquilized, was in bad shape -- and the animal did pass away.

Again, NDOW wants the public to know they did not deliberately euthanize the cub. They had intended to take the animal to a rehabilitation center.
