Safety Forum Tonight at Galena High School

Posted: Updated:

The Washoe County School District is holding a school safety forum tonight inside Galena High School.

The hour-long meeting will happen inside the theater starting at 6pm. The school is located at 3600 Butch Cassidy Drive.

The meetings are open to parents with safety concerns and how the district can make our schools safer.

School officials have been asking parents for feedback for the past few weeks.

And they say they've received some good ideas like safety training for substitute teachers.

"The fact that we hire so many substitute teachers throughout the year, so now we've instituted that al of our subs... We will break out our emergency management training throughout the year for them," says WCSD Police Chief Mike Mieras.

The meetings have been popular so far.

"What's really great about these safety forums is we get to see through the lenses of a parent and the parents get to ask questions and we get input back from them as well. And we tell them what we do as a district in the areas of emergency management."
