Just two years since the first legal black bear hunt in Nevada, the State Senate is set to discuss a bill that would outlaw the hunts.

The Senate Committee on Natural Resources will deliberate on the issue Thursday afternoon.

SB82 identifies the black bear as a protected mammal and bars the State Wildlife Commission from authorizing hunts of the animal.

During the Nevada Tribes Day last month, supporters sang and danced in front of the Legislature building to show their opposition to bear hunts in Nevada.
