Nevada Women's Basketball Falls at New Mexico, 66-43

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The University of Nevada women's basketball team fell 66-43 to New Mexico Wednesday evening at The Pit.

With the loss, Nevada drops to (7-21, 2-13 MW) on the season while New Mexico improves to (15-13, 7-8 MW). 

Both teams battled evenly early on, as the game was tied 9-9 at the 14:32 mark. New Mexico went on an 8-0 run to lead Nevada 17-9 around halfway through the period. A made jump shot by Faith Lois with 10:02 on the clock ended a five minute Wolf Pack scoring drought. Lobos forward Jordyn Peackock's layup with 3:38 to play before halftime gave New Mexico a double-digit lead of 25-15. The Lobos went into the break with a 29-18 lead.

Mimi Mungedi's basket in the key cut the Wolf Pack deficit to 29-20 to start the second half. New Mexico forward Chinyere Njaji's fast break layup put the Lobos up 44-24 with 14:17 on the clock. Mungedi's bucket at the 10:03 mark ended a six minute Nevada scoring drought to bring the score to 54-26. The Lobos held off the Wolf Pack to win the game 66-43.

Danika Sharp led Nevada with 15 points. Mimi Mungedi finished the game with 11 points. The Lobos ended the game shooting 50 percent from the field to 25.9 percent for the Wolf Pack.

Nevada will close out the regular season at Lawlor Events Center Saturday afternoon against Colorado State. Tip-off is scheduled for 4 p.m.

    The Reno Bighorns (21-17) fell to the Memphis Hustle (16-25) 112-110 Saturday afternoon at the Landers Center in Southaven, Miss. Jack Cooley led the Bighorns recording his fifteenth double-double of the season with  28 points and 15 rebounds while Jakarr Sampson had 28 points and six rebounds.
