Even mid-day mid-week volunteers are busy sorting food in Evelyn Mount's garage in east Reno. Every other Friday she delivers meals to seniors citizens and families in need. Last year she gave out 10,000 meals at Thanksgiving and another 10,000 at Christmas. And now her immediate need is for Easter.
"We need donations of eggs...egg shells (the plastic ones), egg fillers, toys, baskets, basket wrap and basket ribbon. We need it all and we need it fast!" she says.
Last year she handed out 918 Easter baskets to area kids and her immediate concern is that she won't be able to fill that many needs this year.
Her future concern though is for more space. "We just need more space to serve God's people," she says. "We get truck loads of donations every week and we've outgrown this neighborhood. Folks are complaining. So we need to find a place we can afford."
And if she can't find the space, she says she'll move on.
"I don't want to do anything else but serve God's people and if I can't continue this and do that I'm gone. I'd go to Mississippi. That's where I'm from and I ain't been there since I was about ten. And that would give me peace."
She needs Easter donations by Friday, March 29th and she's looking for a centrally located affordable building to work out of.
You can find her at 2350 Cannan Street in East Reno. And you can reach her at (775) 657-9462.
