The Nevada Highway Patrol responded to three weather-related crashes on Interstate I-80 near Lockwood around 8:30am.

The most serious involved a red pickup that lost control on the ice and crossed over the median broadsiding a white pickup.

Fortunately, the drivers had minor injuries.

The Highway Patrol says it's important for people to be very careful when the roads get slick. "What we're asking drivers to do is make sure that the they drive very slow, cautiously, stay far away from the person ahead of them, be alert and watch out for drivers who might make a mistake and come into their travel lane. And for sure buckle up, be safe," says Sgt. Janay Sherven.

There were also two more accidents in the same area- each involving just one vehicle.

No one was injured in those crashes.

It's important to check the conditions before you head out the door. You can check on possible restrictions by dialing 511. Or go to ktvn.com and click on the road conditions button at the top of the page.

Sierra snow will continue today with 8-12" above 7,000 feet and 3-6" at Lake level. Scattered rain and snow showers on the valley floor with up to an inch of snow possible in the foothills.

It'll be windy and colder today with highs in the 40s and gusts up to 40mph. Expect chain controls in the mountains through tomorrow morning.

This area of low pressure will move to our south by Thursday with still a chance for some scattered rain and snow showers. We clear out and warm up a bit just in time for the weekend!

Remember to roll the clocks forward one hour Saturday night before your head hits the pillow. Daylight savings time arrives 2 AM Sunday.
