Lawmakers in Carson City are considering a move that would remove restrictions on the role of school police officers, and make them equivalent with primary police officers.
The committee is set to hear AB103 Wednesday morning at 9:00am.
Current law restricts the duties of school police officers and limits their jurisdiction to school property unless they are in pursuit of a criminal, at a school function or issuing traffic citations on the streets adjacent to school property.
The bill removes those limitations and makes school police category 1 peace officers.
It also removes a requirement to transfer some felony cases to other local law enforcement.
