Wind Advisory in Effect Through 4pm Wednesday

A cold front passing through the Sierra and Western Nevada late tonight and Wednesday morning will bring strong and gusty winds to the region. Winds will increase this evening with the highest winds expected across foothill areas overnight and windy conditions spreading to valley areas by early Wednesday morning.

Greater Reno-Carson City-Minden area including the cities of Sparks, Gardnerville and Virginia City.

A wind advisory is now in effect until 4 pm Wednesday.

* Timing: winds will increase tonight with the strongest winds expected in the foothills this evening then spreading to valley areas by late tonight.

* Winds: south to southwest 20 to 35 mph with gusts to 55 mph. Wind prone areas such as Washoe Valley and Galena may receive gusts up to 70 mph.

* Impacts: winds will be an impact to high profile vehicles with travel restrictions likely through wind prone areas. In addition, any loose outdoor items should be secured.
