Churchill Deputies Probe 11 Dog Deaths Near Fallon

Posted: Updated:

Churchill County sheriff's deputies are investigating the deaths of nearly a dozen dogs found in the area around Fallon.

Sheriff Ben Trotter told the Reno Gazette-Journal (http://tinyurl.com/c5spmcv) on Monday that 11 dogs have been discovered in two different piles over the past month. Some apparently were shot to death.

Four dead dogs were found near Powerline Road on Feb. 9. Another seven were found over the weekend off of Casey Road. They included pit bulls, daschunds, a golden retriever, a border collie, a Jack Russell terrier and a golden Pomeranian.

The sheriff says X-rays appear to show bullet fragments in each. He says the dogs carried no tags but appeared to be in good health at the time of their death. They've been unable to locate any previous owners.
