Riverside County Wildfire Now 40% Contained

Posted: Updated:

A brushfire that damaged a house in Riverside County and left nearly 2,000 Southern California residents without power is 40% contained, and a voluntary evacuation has been lifted.

Firefighters on Friday battled the 300-acre blaze that erupted Wednesday in the area of a riverbed in Jurupa Valley.

TV reports show flames still burning tinder-dry palm trees, sending up showers of sparks. Morning winds are light but gusts of up to 35 mph are possible through the afternoon.

At its peak, the fire burned near homes and burned power lines. However, electricity has been restored.  (AP)
