Adopt a 'Mini Panther' for $5 at Nevada Humane Society

Posted: Updated:

Black cats are graceful, elegant and charming, but they are often overlooked by potential adopters in animal shelters. No one knows exactly why—perhaps they just do not stand out as much as brighter colored cats.

To help call attention to these wonderful companions, Nevada Humane Society has dubbed black cats Mini Panthers because of their elegant features and resemblance to their majestic wild distant cousins. You can adopt your own exotic Mini Panther for $5 from February 26 through March 3. When you adopt a Mini Panther you are entered to win a $150 gift basket from Cozy Cattery! In addition you will receive a small gift bag for each kitty you adopt (while supplies last), also generously donated by Cozy Cattery.

"Black cats are full of personality and are charming, expressive, and a lot of fun," explained Vonice Reed, Cat Care Manager at Nevada Humane Society. "They seem to be overlooked in shelters and that's a shame because they make such wonderful pets."

Why adopt a Mini Panther?

  • You can be a hero; on average, black cats stay in shelters longer than any other colored cat.
  • Their fur blends in with your dark clothes.
  • Your Mini Panther will look stylish and swanky lounging on any chair, bed, sofa or floor in the house.
  • Black is the most elegant and sophisticated color; black is always in style.
  • They will love you unconditionally.

Mini Panthers are available for adoption for just $5. Other adult cats can be adopted for $30, and adult dogs can be adopted for $50. All pets are spayed and neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped before being adopted. These services would normally cost over $200.

If you would like to meet a Mini Panther or any of our other adorable pets, visit Nevada Humane Society at 2825 Longley Lane in Reno. The shelter is open daily for adoptions from 11:00 am until 6:30 pm and an hour earlier on Saturday at 10:00 am. For more information, call 775-856-2000 or visit www.nevadahumanesociety.org.
