Despite a ninth-inning rally, the University of Nevada baseball team fell to the Sacramento State Hornets by a score of 4-1 on Tuesday.

With the loss, the Wolf Pack sits a game above .500 at 5-4, while the Hornets moved to 4-4 with the win. Nevada starter Barry Timko is credited with the loss, his first of the year.

In the ninth, the Pack loaded the bases with nobody out, but was unable to push a run across.

Timko pitched five innings, surrendering three earned runs while striking out four and walking one. The Nevada bullpen looked sharp in the game, combining for only one earned run, two strikeouts and allowed no walks.

Five Wolf Pack players recorded hits on the day, including one from Kewby Meyer, who is hitting .346 with two home runs and six RBIs. In the seventh, Brett Jones led off the inning with a pinch hit single to right field. Jones later scored on a Shaun Mize ground ball to short after a throwing error allowed him to advance to third.

The first run of the game came from the Hornets in the second inning, when Dane Fujinaka hit a ground ball to right side to score David Del Grande. Scott Loper followed with a single to short to bring in another run and make it 2-0 Hornets. Sacramento also scored once in the fourth and once in the sixth.

The Wolf Pack is in action again this Saturday when it hosts a double header with Holy Cross starting at 11 A.M.
